Margaret Straub, a physician assistant in the Department of Human Oncology, was awarded the 2019 PA Leader of the Year award by the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants. The award recognizes her leadership within the PA profession, UW Health and the community.
Straub mentors students who are interested in the PA or medical profession, educates PA students and provides lectures on a variety of topics to other professional organizations within the state and country. She serves on various UW Health committees, including the Advanced Practice Provider Council and the PA Credentialing Committee. She founded the UW Health Advanced Practice Providers Canstruction Project, in which participants make sculptures from canned food that is then donated food pantries. She also volunteers within her community as a mentor for at-risk youth, co-leads a community effort to build a splash pad and helps 4-H/Future Farmers of America students with agricultural projects.
