Dr. Michael Bassetti, assistant professor in the Department of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, recently received a UW Health Rising Star Clinical Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award honors outstanding clinicians and educators who have demonstrated exceptional and measurable contributions to clinical practice in their early career tenure at UW Health.
Dr. Bassetti, who joined the department in 2013, specializes in treating gastrointestinal cancers. He has led the department’s MRI-guided radiotherapy program and has authored or co-authored two clinical trials exploring the interactions between radiation therapy and checkpoint inhibitor-based immunotherapy. An esteemed mentor, he received the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology (ARRO) Educator of the Year Award in 2015.
“Since day one, Dr. Bassetti has displayed an outstanding level of enthusiasm; commitment to advancing high-quality, innovative patient care; a rare talent for identifying and pursuing strategic oncologic care goals; and the leadership and organizational skills to successfully pursue them,” wrote Dr. Mark Ritter, DHO professor, in a nomination letter for the award.
Congratulations, Dr. Bassetti!
